No More McDonald's (continued)

One Saturday night – after a wild Friday night that landed me sleeping in my car – I went to McDonald’s and bought a cheeseburger, French fries, and a diet Coke to feed my hangover.  As I sat in my car, alone, eating my greasy food and watching the rain roll down my windshield, I decided I was ready to try something different.

Today, I have a new set of tools to deal with life, without drinking.  I haven’t had a drink or a hangover (or eaten at McDonald’s) since that rainy night over three years ago.  I learned there are lots of people who are willing to help me - some have become my closest friends.  I worried that my life wouldn’t be fun anymore if I was sober but that’s totally not true.  Now I have more time - and energy – to do lots of things I’ve wanted to do instead of nursing a hangover or planning my next binge.  I’m glad I’m alive to know the difference.
